Bruce is a 1969 graduate of Colgate University and a 1972 graduate of Boston College Law School. He is a member of the Maine State Bar Association and is admitted to practice in both the State and Federal courts of Maine.

Bruce began practicing law in 1972 and has lived in South Berwick since 1975. His office is located in the historic Huntress Home in the downtown area. He and his wife Vicky have three children: Michael, Emily and David.

Bruce was the past president of the Board of Directors of Pine Tree Legal Aid; and past President of the Board of Directors of Camp Waban, Sanford, Maine; moderator of the Federated Church of South Berwick; a founding director of the South Berwick Public Library; Deacon of the First Parish Church, Dover, NH and a past member of the South Berwick Planning Board.
